Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session. Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four during the early running. Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the wall. The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the main straight. Hamilton finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
